Twitter Is Simple And Very Effective

Twitter can be said to have taken the communication through the internet on an altogether another level. It is much more than a social networking site. Some people look at it as “Tumblelog” while many others have this perception that it is an extravagantly huge chat room. Well, to face the fact of the matter, it is much more than all of these things and a considerable step forward. Twitter has been brought on by the developers of Odeo, a directory and also a successful search engine for RSS syndicated audio & video. Twitter is fast becoming a fun and a really cool way to share stuff and talk to all your friends.

Twitter is loaded with many utility features. You can use it for tumblelog wherein most of them act as links compiled together and many online discoveries to indulge into. However, it’s popularity is increasing as many bloggers use them for their artistic and creative endeavors. The really short-story idea of tumblelogs makes it much simpler for all artists showcasing their new photos and artwork. And all these works really well in Twitter, because the submission is extremely simple here. The web interface of Twitter that has a simple text box, is fairly easy to get things done. You can even use your cell phone by setting it up and using the jabber instant messaging for getting the latest updates and also the IMs from your friends.

You can now say that Twitter is really multiple web applications on one platform and is undoubtedly taking the Internet Relay Chat, IRC to the next level. You can now talk right through the browser, through your cell phone(that you have set up) or the jabber client. The users here, are not restricted to a single protocol. Now, this is the freedom that really sets twitter apart from the regular IRC.

There are a lot of things in Twitter that you can customize without making it look bad. You can customize the design, change colors, the background image and some say that no matter what you do with it, it won’t look bad as some of the other sites and services tend to get. Apart from the interface aspect, Twitter is great on the usability front as well. Everything is very simple to use. Right from posting entries to adding friends, everything happens on a single click. Commenting on the articles and updating your website or blog is extremely simple here. Everything looks like it was well thought out and has been executed greatly which you can really see.

The community on Twitter has some really cool people posting. Interacting with them is great fun and lot of them have also posted videos stating the reasons why they use and like Twitter. Micro-blogging has been really made simple in Twitter and the simple functionalities allowing users to publish brief text updates and micromedia such audio clips and pictures which is simply incredible.

The Samsung Omnia Review

After a steady beginning in Europe and Asia for months now, the Samsung Omnia debuted in the United States on Verizon’s 3G network just days before the Thanksgiving 08. It was made available for $249. Coming with a 2 year contract, this sophisticated looking phone had just about everything tht one looks for in a smart phone. The absence of a very standard 3.5-mm headphone jack and a physical QWERTY keyboard for some people, might just keep the Omnia away from being a potential threat to the Apple iPhone and the T-Mobile G1.

The Omnia has smart and quite elegant looks, mostly due to its chrome finish and black matte plastic back. The phone has a crisp, 3.2-inch, 640-by-480-pixel-resolution screen occupying most of the space on its 4.4-by-2.2-by-0.5-inch body. Here, the screen is 0.3 inch smaller than the one in the iPhone. The placement of the keys in the spine of the phone on the either sides looks quite good on the utility front. Buttons dedicated for the camera and the volume rocker, sit on the left spine of the phone, while the headphone and the charger jack with a stylus tether feature on the right. The Omnia being quite generous on the memory front can also accomodate a card with 16GB of external memory.

The Omnia weighs 4.3 ounces which is 0.4 ounes lighter than the iPhone, feels really comfortable in hand and also in pocket. Verizon’s 3G network quality being so good, the call quality was never really an issue. The calls sound loud and clear with some hsses and distortions. There is no official ratings for the battery life of the Omnia as yet, but the features and the display specs, looks all set to stretch it to the limit.

The landscape QWERTY keys are a bit tricky to use as they are smaller than conventional and you tend to hit the wrong ones. The predictive text function often predicts the wrong text and that is quite an annoyance. The menu key launching the menu of the messaging options can be difficult to access because of it being located directly below the minuscule space bar. On the positive side, the tactile response made the Omnia’s keyboard much more comfortable to type on than a lot other touch screen phones. It still seems that the Omnia would have greatly benefitted from having a physical, slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

There is a dedicated key for launching the camera, with autofocus and a power LED flash, on the spine of the Omnia. The camera lacks optical zoom but come with a handful of advanced features that include white balance and shooting modes such as night shots, sunset, sports and for text shooting. The image quality is really good. There is some amount of noise on indoor and low-light shots though.

Despite several disputes and a few kinks relating to the design and the interface, the Samsung Omnia is surely a high-quality phone delivering a bountiful array of lineaments.

Google Chrome - A Review

Finally, the wait is over and the much-awaited browser by Google is officially out. Much to the surprise of many, it released with all the bugs and fixes. Well, no complains for that. The main reason for that being released in the unexpectedly less time it took in getting out of Beta. It was not too long ago that the Chrome Beta was available for download. Google has taken less than four months to fix all the bugs and make it ready for release.

The most common glitches that were seen in the beta version have been fixed by the team. Now the claim is that the full version has better stability and is fairly good on the performance front. Especially, the audio and video plug-ins have been well taken care of. Google says that there has been an improvement in the speeds, almost double from its first release. There are many utility and personalization features that make it really comfortable to work with.

One feature that was really great was the Bookmarking getting personalised with some privacy controls. Also, you can import your bookmarks in the post-beta version, making it easier to siwtch between your other browsers. Switching between tabs is now much easier than in the Chrome beta. The developers mentioned that security was one of the key aspects that they focussed on.

Speaking of security, this issue is been taken up quite seriously by the Chrome developers. The developers are constantly looking up for improving the features and the security stuff. Google chrome has this unique thing called the “sandbox technology” that creates additional layers of defense preventing harmful software, from  being executed while there is another Safe Browsing feature that provides protection against phishing and malware attacks.

Developers say that the work is not yet done on the Chrome and people should not think that just because it out of beta, the developement is at a halt. There a lot of features and enhancements that need to be taken care of like the RSS feeds support and the auto-fill function and many such loads of other features.

The Mac and the Linux versions of the Chrome are still under developement and should be realeased very soon with all the plug-ins and compatibility support.
